Finding A Perfect Restaurant For A Birthday Brunch

Posted on: 27 March 2015

Brunch is the perfect meal for a birthday celebration. It's a relatively low-key event that won't clash with too many other social commitments and can be styled to suit parties of any size and composition. Having your brunch in a restaurant frees you from the burden of getting up super early to start cooking for everyone and cleaning up afterwards, leaving your free to enjoy your birthday.

Here are some things to keep in mind when hunting down the perfect restaurant venue for your big birthday bash.

With kids or without?

The vibe of restaurants can change throughout the day - so a venue that is a super hip adults-only option by night might be overrun with small children by day. It could be worth trying out your restaurant for brunch a few weeks before sending out the invite to make sure that the atmosphere suits the kind of brunch party you are aiming for.

If you are inviting small children, send the parents a copy of the menu ahead of time so they can assess whether they want to bring their child along. They might be eager to have a child-free meal if the brunch menu runs to mimosas and fancy french cuisine or food their child is allergic to.

How large is your party?

If you have a party of more than 6, you should aim for a venue that takes bookings. Again, restaurants that commonly take dinner bookings often don't take brunch bookings, so check before you send the invite that you can definitely get a booking for a large table. Nothing will bring the party down like not being able to get a table. If you have prebooked a large party, the kitchen can make sure they have enough staff on to look after your table and keep the food and drinks flowing.

There can be less competition for private dining rooms during the day, so this could be a great time to get to check out that back function area you can never get into on a busy night time serving session.

Is it a birthday without a cake?

If you still want a chance to blow out a birthday candle, but don't feel like cake for brunch, a stack of pancakes with sparklers or candles has a similar effect but can be easier to stomach.
